Separately from “when to initiate division”, cell has “when to block division” genes.

Tumor suppressors likely evolved from these.

Here I list conceptual categories of mitosis vetoes.

In prokaryotes.

Min proteins suppress polar Z-rings,

nucleoid occlusion suppresses septation over DNA,

division is coordinated with chromosome replication and segregation.

M. genitalium looks much more stripped down than that.

In mycoplasmas, Martínez-Torró et al. write: “In mycoplasmas, the dcw gene cluster is usually limited to four genes: mraZ, mraW, MG_223, and ftsZ.” in M. genitalium they found: “the entire cell division gene cluster of M. genitalium is non-essential for growth in vitro.”

FtsZ is usually the central object that all the checkpoint-ish bullshit converges on.
