Martin Nowak
Martin A. Nowak (born 1965) is an Austrian mathematical biologist, professor of biology and of mathematics at Harvard University, where he directs the Program for Evolutionary Dynamics. His work concerns the mathematical theory of evolution, with a focus on the evolution of cooperation.
Evolution of cooperation
Nowak’s 2006 review “Five rules for the evolution of cooperation” organized the known mechanisms by which natural selection can favor cooperation: kin selection, direct reciprocity, indirect reciprocity, network reciprocity (spatial structure) and group selection.
