NFE2L2 (NRF2)

What it is. bZIP transcription factor controlling antioxidant and detoxification genes; held in check by KEAP1 under basal conditions.

Why it matters here. Maintains a cellular environment that limits damage accumulation; excessive activation, however, can grant survival advantages to aberrant cells.

Notes. KEAP1–CUL3 targets NRF2 for degradation; stabilization shifts expression toward protective programs.
